ABOUT

Pequonnock (Housatonic) Railbed Greenway

The State of Connecticut designates "corridors of open space" as official greenways.

These corridors protect natural resources, preserve scenic landscapes and historical resources, offer opportunities for recreation or non-motorized transportation, connect existing protected areas and provide access to the outdoors. Since the program began, 68 greenways have been designated.

The Pequonnock (Housatonic) Railbed Greenway was designated in 2001 as part of the inaugural group of state-designated greenways, and is located along the path of the abandoned Housatonic Railroad line.

The greenway extends from Bridgeport through Trumbull and Monroe and into Newtown.
